Air Travel

Hey Mary and D!

I am sure the Cancer Center has dealt with the concerns everyone has expressed here.  One thing: I am pretty sure that all airlines provide free oxygen bottles to travelers who need them.  I think it would be a good idea if you used oxygen on board.  The constant flow into your nostrils creates a positive pressure that virtually eliminates germs from drifting up in there.  I think you should ask the Dr's about how to keep your nose from drying up and falling off your face too!  The air on planes is extremely dry, and then add breathing un-humidified oxygen to that....  Yikes!  I have heard of people rubbing almond or olive oil in their nostrils before flying to prevent your nose from getting too dry.  There may even be a germ barrier-cream you can use.

Make sure to bring LOTS of your own drinking water, possibly one of the vitamin enhanced brands that are out their.  If you really want to lower risks:  Wear a surgical mask before you walk into the Jetway.  The Jetway is where I always notice the jet fuel fumes.

I actually think the airports are pretty clean these days, except that you are exposed to people and cooties from around the world.  Pack up some hand sanitizers and wipes for the arm rests on your seat.   Make D take some Bean-O too.  You can't be too careful!

Again:  I think you should do all these thing AND ask you Dr for advice.

SO happy that you are coming home!  And we promise not to call...  You need to be able to rest without company or the phone ringing off the hook.

We love you guys,

Scott & Jim
